Eyebrow lift

Eyebrow lift

A variety of factors are responsible for the drooping of the eyebrows as part of the facial aging process. Skin elasticity and skin texture also influence the resistance of the tissue to external factors such as gravity. With increasing loss of skin elasticity, horizontal forehead wrinkles often increase in size from as early as age 30. These are usually still very amenable to Botox treatment.

As aging progresses, the outer side of the brow facing the temple can be expected to drop, and later the middle and nasal part of the brow can be expected to drop as well. The tissue located under the upper layer of skin (so-called subcutaneous tissue), although attached to the bony orbit, yields to the weight and continues to sink. This gives the impression of a "low-hanging" eyebrow (so-called brow ptosis).

As the forehead wrinkles progress, the excess skin, which accumulates more in the upper eyelid, is accentuated. This leads to a tired and aged appearance of the brow/forehead area and to the impression of deeper-set smaller eyes.

Technical termBrow ptosis
Type of anesthesiaNormally, local anesthesia is used together with light sedation. Of course, the type of anesthesia will be discussed with you in detail and adapted to your wishes as far as possible.
Durationapprox. 45 minutes
StayThe procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. You can return home after the procedure.
Absence from work1-2 days
Fit for social lifeafter 1-2 weeks

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. If you wish, a light sedation can be applied. You bring old photos of yourself in advance so that it can be determined how the skin has changed. In this way, the most natural result possible is achieved. Based on these pictures, the area of skin and fatty tissue that is to be removed is first drawn in during the procedure. The incision is made just above the eyebrow. After removing the desired excess skin, the incision is closed with the finest suture material so that almost no scars remain visible.

Sometimes a brow lift is combined with surgery for drooping eyelids.

Any swelling, redness or blue discoloration in the eyelid or eye area will subside within 7 - 14 days. Daily cooling and elevation of the upper body further reduce swelling. Eye drops (3 x 1 per day) are administered regularly to keep the eye moist. Tapes and stitches are removed about 5-7 days after surgery.
