Dermatochalasis

Dermatochalasis

Dermatochalasis is sagging skin around the eye area. The excess skin on the upper eyelids is also called "drooping eyelids", the excess on the lower eyelids "bags under the eyes". The "drooping eyelids" in particular make a face look tired and older and, if severe, can even restrict the field of vision.

The surgical procedure on the upper eyelid "drooping eyelid" includes removal of the excess skin adapted to your individual needs. Depending on the findings, additional removal of the protruding fatty tissue and correction of the eyelid furrow height may be necessary. Often, a tightening of the ring-shaped muscle around the eye is also useful in order to achieve a long-term result. If necessary, an eyebrow lift can be performed through the same approach.

Surgery on the lower eyelid also includes skin, fat and muscle reduction, but often must be combined with tightening of the eyelid frenulum.

The aim of the operation is to achieve a natural, fresher and more open appearance of the eye area.
It is then purely a cosmetic operation. The surgical procedure depends decisively on your individual findings.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. If you wish, light sedation can be applied. You bring old photos of yourself in advance so that it can be determined how the skin has changed and the most natural result possible can be achieved. Using these pictures, the area of skin and fatty tissue to be removed will first be outlined prior to the procedure. The incision is made in as inconspicuous a place as possible (for example, the crease of the eyelid or the eyebrow). After removing the desired excess skin, the incision is closed with the finest suture material so that almost no scars remain visible.

Any swelling, redness or blue discoloration in the eyelid or eye area will subside within 7-14 days. Daily cooling and elevation of the upper body further reduce swelling. Eye drops (3 x 1 per day) are administered regularly to keep the eye moist. Tapes and stitches are removed about 5-7 days after surgery.
